The Foundation is dedicated to helping our Library serve as a center of life in Waverly – a window to information, connection, and community.

Supporting the Waverly Public Library takes a community, and the WPL Foundation makes sure every contribution truly counts.

The WPL Foundation works to inspire members of our community to support the Waverly Public Library – by becoming Library patrons, volunteers, and donors. As gifts are made to support the Library, it’s the Foundation’s core responsibility to ensure those dollars are used in accordance with a donor’s intentions.

Financial Management

Strong governance and prudent financial management are at the core of the WPL Foundation’s work, ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainability.

The WPL Foundation Board of Directors oversees the organization’s annual fundraising and investment management activities. The investment portfolio is overseen by the Board’s Investment Committee, and managed by professional financial advisors at Accel Wealth Management in Waverly. The WPL Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization registered with the IRS and State of Iowa, which means charitable contributions are typically tax-deductible for the donor to the extent allowed by law.

We work to ensure Library gifts are used in accordance with donor wishes, and invested so they can support the Library’s highest and greatest needs.The Foundation has a unique financial structure that combines two accounts:

Direct: Dollars given directly to the Foundation for long-term support of the Library and its mission.
Custodial: Dollars given to the Library, and then transferred and invested by the Foundation for future Library use.

Volunteer Leadership

The Foundation provides financial management and fund development to help the Library manage and utilize its gifts and bequests. The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors made up of 3 members of the Library’s Board of Trustees, 3 members who hold specific Library-related positions with the City, and 3 members of the public at large.

The volunteer Board oversees the Library’s ongoing fundraising program, manages the Library’s investments, and administers its grants and gifts. Contact the Library or reach out to the Mayor of Waverly if you are interested in serving on the Board.
