A trip to the local library is an event our whole family looks forward to. When the weather is nice, it is a tradition to read through the story in the garden, feed the fish and complete the obstacle course painted on the sidewalks. Although it is a quick endeavor, my son and our family love the opportunity to recharge in such a relaxing and inviting space. Our time at the library always has us leaving with our arms filled with new books (which somehow Miss Emily always adds a few more to our stack) and some new games to learn and play as a family.

One of our earliest and favorite library memories in Waverly was attending the weekly toddler story time and working through the 1,000 books before kindergarten program. It is programs like this and the summer reading program that have shown our son, Oscar, how much joy can come from reading. This past summer my five-year-old was so motivated to earn a pass to the “exclusive” Summer Reading Program glow stick pool party that he committed himself to learning to read. I saw him start the summer reading program with basic pre-reader books and ended the summer with early chapter books. I credit much of this to the wonderful staff and programming offered at the Waverly Library.

I often talk with family about our library programs who say, “wow the your library does so much for it’s patrons” and they are absolutely right. I am so appreciative of the opportunities that the Waverly Library provides my family and our community and am excited to see how the Renewal program can continue to support its mission.
